Academic Tutoring/Cooperative Learning
Formerly called the “Individualized Instruction” program, LCA is re-launching this program under the leadership of Mrs. Winnie Taber. Mrs. Taber brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this program. The “Academic Tutoring” program will now focus solely on student support! We understand that the success we have in school may be the only vehicle that will launch our students’ into their career.
Liberty Christian Academy developed a tutoring partnership with Liberty University in 2006 to offer support for students, and this will continue! Academic tutoring seeks to make the most of the education at LCA, by providing academic coaches (carefully selected Liberty University students) who can help to develop a greater understanding of the material and the skills necessary for growth and achievement within the classroom. Academic coaches will be placed in a variety of the classrooms and learning labs to give additional academic support. We will also make attempts to have coaches available before and after school under the supervision of a licensed teacher.
This tutoring does not take the place of classroom instruction. Students will continue to be encouraged to go to the classroom teacher first for academic tutoring. Additionally, the responsibility of checking homework, completing homework and missed work lies with the student and the parent. Academic tutors are here to support students who do not fully understand the academic concepts being taught in the classroom, not to help them complete work that they know how to do and have failed to turn in.
