Fine Arts Electives

Art Program

Students work with a variety of art media and develop creative aptitudes with their God-given talents. Our LCA art program consists of:

  • Art Fundamentals
  • Art Foundations
  • Sculpture
  • Art Expressions
  • Drawing and Painting I & II

“And let the beauty and delightfulness and favor of the Lord our God be upon us; confirm and establish the work of our hands.” Psalm 90:17

Bands

The Band is a beautiful picture of our Christian walk. One instrument is not better than any other. We must watch one director in order to play and perform our best. We as Christians must work together to follow our director, Jesus Christ.

Band Grades 4-5
Students have the opportunity to have a private/small group lesson on their desired instrument once a week. These students may choose from the basic band instruments for their instruction.

Band Grade 6
Band 6 will focus on furthering knowledge of an instrument. Continued reinforcement of posture, breathing, hand positions, embouchure, and instrument care will be stressed. Emphasis will be placed on learning note names, fingerings, how to count rhythms, tone quality, intonation, and basic knowledge of musical terms.

Concert Band Grades 7-8
Concert Band will build off of and continue the growth of knowledge and skills learned in Band 6. Emphasis will be placed on scales, tone quality, and more advanced musical skills.

Symphonic Band Grades 9-12
Symphonic Band continues to promote instrument knowledge and care. There is focus on advanced musical skills and practices. Members of the Symphonic Band have the opportunity to participate in All-District Band and All-VA Band.  Selected students have also been a part of the VA Tech Honors Band.

Choir

LCA has four choirs that allow students the opportunity to use their talent in vocal music and continue their instruction in proper techniques of vocal performance.

  • 6th-grade choir
  • 7th & 8th grade combined choir
  • Senior High Choir (non-auditioned)
  • Concert Choir (auditioned)

In the past, LCA choirs have participated in various choral competitions and have received top honors. They have also had the privilege of being the guest choir for A Gaither Christmas Homecoming and were honored to sing for Governor Mike Huckabee and actor Stephen Baldwin at the CVA Pastor’s Breakfast.

Our Concert Choir has had the opportunity to sing with Guy Penrod of the Gaither Vocal Band in concert, has appeared in the WSET Sounds of Christmas, sung for the Central Virginia Annual Police Memorial Service, and has ministered in various area churches.  Students also have the opportunity to participate in state-sanctioned choral events through All-District and All-VA Chorus.

“Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.” Psalm 147:1
